Sherlock Holmes and his interest in dogs.

'I have serious thoughts of writing a small monograph upon the uses of dogs in the work of the detective.'

"May I draw your attention to the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
"The dog did nothing in the night-time."
"That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes.

Stocking up

Susanne - matching her coat to her afghan hounds.

Packaging for one of 3 packets of hosiery picked up today when the local second hand shop was selling all goods for 10kr/$2.
Also picked up a cream shift dress with a pleating detail along the hem, perfect for peaking out underneath a knee-length coat; a brown velvet blazer, from when H&M was still known as 'Hennes & Mauritz', and a burgundy long sleeved shirt, the perfect time for adding to my meagre wardrobe, as the days get shorter and more tempermental, in the transition into autumn.

IL CONFORMISTA

stills from Bernardo Bertolucci's 'Il Conformista' (1970). probably the best film I have seen this year, and worth watching purely for the stunning cinematography and luscious colours.
also recommended is Bertolucci's fantastic 1962 directorial debut 'La commare secca', which reinforced my preference for Italian cinema over French.

Thanks Claire for passing this on to me!

TWIN PEAKS

Hercule Poirot's Windowsill in Sweden

sketch of Hercule Poirot's windowsill in his hypothetical Swedish apartment. a fanatic of 'order and method', forever straightening curios on mantlepieces, he would definitely arrange his pot plants in height order.
working on a proposal for my first show in sweden and the relationship between pot plants and criminal activity still preys on my mind.

on second thoughts, perhaps Poirot would have topiary bushes or succulents on his windowsills instead of the usual leafy fare. or plastic ones to avoid all possibility of the mess of nature.

somehow this feels like a nightmare wrapped up in a dream.
a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

at the least, a work i would have greatly liked to see.

Disco Darth - Disco Infernal
Date and Artist Unknown

two artists who disassemble disco balls and flatten them out, and a large darth vader disco ball, which reminds me of my idea to reconstitute a disco ball into the shape of yuri gagarin in his helmet. and i rather wanted to title it 'yuri in the sky with diamonds'. i prefer my disco balls at least vaguely spherical and rotating.

It's all fiction, isn't it?
